The movie however is still great and worth watching even though a lot of the side characters are gonna seem a bit weak. The story and characters were just better. Notice in the last scene, when Shoya builds the courage to look at strangers in the eyes, the music became very clear in the amazing ost LIT. When Shoya was confused, sad or trying to understand Shoko, the music became very blurry. I was on a YouTube video when I read a comment pointed out that the soundtrack reflected Shoya's growth, his current feelings or Shoko's hearing. I'm not an animator soooooooo ONTO THE MUSIC! The music was breathtaking. Vibrant, smooth and the shots didn't completely copy the panels from the manga and ehhhhhhh, that's basically all I can stay about animation. The movie though tolled the story very well and was still touching. The manga is definitely better with the story, characters and pacing. The love might of been hinted again at the last page of the manga but it's very ambiguous and left to interpretation. It served no purpose to the plot and characters, was kinda out of the blue and was never revisited. Only one minor flaw with the characters and story in the movie, is that they kept the bit when Shoko tells Shoya she loves him but he misheard her for "moon". It also hinted to Ueno crushing on Shoya in the elementary school sequence, again not in the manga. It did add some foreshadowing towards Shoko's attempt of suicide in the playground scene at the beginning of the movie and in Yuzuru's dream, which wasn't present in the manga. As you could tell, the movie doesn't add a lot to the story and characters. Scenes were shortened, rearranged or left out so as much of the main plot could fit into the movie as possible. The movie sacrifices developing the side characters, abandoning the Short movie subplot for complete focus on the main plot. This had to be done to tell the story in a movie's limit. Because of this, the movie is paced very fast and gets rid of a lot content from the manga. The movie of A Silent Voice is trying to fit seven 200 page volumes into a two hour movie. So was it? Did this live up to the manga or was it a failure? Should you read the manga or watch the movie? Let's find out! I was pretty confident that this was going to be a fantastic movie and I was finally able to watch it yesterday. The animation and music was beautiful, and the trailer created intrigue without spoiling the entire story (not many trailers do that now). After I finished the manga, I was very keen to watch the movie, especially as I watched the fantastic trailer linked above. Anyone will be able to relate to this story in someway, whether it's having experienced bullying, finding redemption, friendship or having social issues or misunderstandings.

It's an incredibly human and relatable story. I read the manga a few months ago and now it's one of my favourite manga. Koe no Katachi or translated in English as The Shape of Voice or A Silent Voice (which I prefer) is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever experienced. This will also contain spoilers, so if you have not experienced this fantastic story yet, I recommend reading the manga then watching the anime, so you get a better understanding of the side characters and their relationships! This entire review is 100% my personal opinion. Please suggest improvements in the comments. Miki on the other hand took part in almost every prank they did to Shoko as kids and never accepted it, she revealed that Shoya bullied Shoko just over a little argument and played innocent and even victim, she's a bitch through and through.-This is my first review, so sorry if it's not very good. Miki was the worse character (personality wise) in koe no katachi.the only problem is that everyone sees naoka as the bad guy but no one notices Miki being the one to stir the pot Exactly! Most people just hate Naoka because of the way she treated Shoko, like threating her in the ferrywheel and assaulting her infront of the hospital, which is terrible (don't get me wrong) but the thing is, everything she did, she did out in the open, everyone could see it and she didn't denie it. Naoka got a redemption in manga so i don't hate her but i still don't like miki. I have read the manga and in manga Naoka loves Ishida so much and cared about him.In manga when miki blame Ishida and exposed the past of Ishida infront of whole class there Naoka Tried to save Ishida. Naoka did some bad stuff with Nishimiya because she was jealous of her. This is basically a debate between a B**** and the girl who pretends to be innocence so i really think that Miki deserved a kick in the throat while Naoka deserved a pimp slapI don't hate a single character iñ koe no katachi expect for miki,I don't like her personality.
